Thirty Day Challenge Issues

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008 | My Ramble with

It is only Day 2 into The Thirty Day Challenge and already there is problems.

Market Samurai - the much hyped, latest and greatest keyword research tool, available to the 30DC users for a month, seems to have a few issues.

I know i was warned that a lot of users of Market Samurai would have issues, but honestly, if they knew there would be issues for 1000’s of users beforehand why offer this product, if you also know most of the users are beginners?

The Thirty Day Challenge is supposed to teach you how to make your first dollar online. So here is an idea. I will make a product and try to market it. But you know what, i will make it so 1000’s of users won’t be able to use it. How much do you think i will make? Now is that a good image for the 30DC to be putting out?

Another thing i don’t understand is Market Samurai’s system requirements. You need a 2GHz or faster processor and 1Gb or greater of ram. Again, if this challenge is mainly aimed at beginners, how many beginners can afford a set up like this? My 1.6GHz with 640mg ram had major issues.

And do we receive help from the 30DC forums? No, moderators just direct you to the Market Samurai support and forum (sound familar Entrecard and SezWho members). Guess what? Another forum i have to join :)

But to be honest who cares, i can’t use it anyway because of my modem.

Apparently Market Samurai disconnects you every two minutes. So off to the support forums. And guess what?

Answer: Unfortunately, the nature of Market Samurai requires it to request a large amount of data in a short period of time. There is no way to avoid this at this point in time.

And the comedy continues,

Siemens Speedstream modem (which most Telstra users will be using)

In this case, you will need to contact the manufacturer or supplier (possibly your Internet Service Provider) regarding this fault.

My Answer: Yeah right, ring Telstra and explain this problem to them. By the time i actually speak to a real person i could have got the same research results using the old methods.

I went over to the site you linked, I don’t really understand what that’s about. As I’m already making least 50 USD a month.

EC selling might be one good way.

    Hi Adsense Addict,

Unfortunately, this is an issue that lowly programmers could solve with the software itself beyond slowing down the time it takes for Market Samurai to gather data - and there’s no guarantees that this would solve the fault with this particular modem either.

When I originally encountered the problem, I found a post on the Whirlpool forums where a user had a replacement modem shipped out to them by their ISP to fix the fault. The delivery included a return envelope that the user could place the faulty modem in, and return it.

I genuinely wish there was more that we could do to solve this problem for the 3 or 4 users who have reported it (fortunately, not all Telstra DSL customers do not use this modem type).

Unfortunately, we’re powerless to fix circuits-and-wire hardware problems in users computers - only software problems inside the Market Samurai software.

i am more disappointed in the fact that this was a known issue one week before launch yet now mention was made.

Another thing is that the responses given by moderators when i had a dig at the software offended me.

One even suggested i shouldn’t do internet marketing because i have a slow internet connection. The connection is fine (259k)the modem is fine. This is the first time i had internet problems in 3 years

If you want 1000s of people to beta test a product for you free you should expect at least a few negative comments.

If this is the image the 30DC wants to have, no worries.

This sounds like a proper pain in the keister. Anything you want to know or need about marketing is already on the internet. The best thing is to ask in forums, and then run some carefully-thought-out queries in a search engine, et voila! The answer!
