Why Use Twitter

Thursday, July 24th, 2008 | Blogging with

First thank you all for your comments on my last post Twitter Plugin. From some of the comments left it seems there is still a few who do not understand the full potential of Twitter.

Originally i was going to write a follow up post on some of the advantages of using Twitter but in my weekly scan of my favourite blogs i came across a post from Soren Jordansen titled Twitter In Plain English which couldn’t explain it any easier. Here is just a sample of Soren’s post,

Twitter is also a very powerful way to get noticed by leaders in your industry. You want to seek out people in your industry who are more successful than you are, and add them to the list of people your are following.

When they post at Twitter, you can reply to their tweets and they will be able to read it. Don’t spam them, you need to add to the conversation, offer your help on something, or post an intelligent question. If you do this the right way these “industry leaders” will start to notice you, and remember you - and trust me that’s a great thing.

Also sometimes these “industry leaders” will reply to you, and that is where the fun begins… All their followers will see that they have found you worth talking to, and they now have the chance to go check out your Twitter page and start following you. You are in other words becoming “famous by association”, and you can really pick up a lot of new Twitter followers this way.

Now you see what potential Twitter has?

If you have never read Soren’s blog you can check it out here, and make sure you subscribe to his feed or newsletter. I am glad i did, as it was how i found out about his great new Twitter plugin Tweet My Blog and receive fantastic IM tips as well.

Twitter seems pretty easy and straightforward, I don’t know why I can’t manage to keep up with it, I’ll have to try harder.

Very good post, without fluff and to the point.

I’ve read a post from Graham Langdon at Entrecard blog speaking wonders of twitter. I didn’t find it useful at that moment, but now I’m starting to realize (and slowly unleash) the marketing and socializing power of twitter.

Now I have a couple of guys (writer Paulo Coelho and internet marketing legend Paul Myers) at the reach of a tweet, and still can’t believe it.

Hey there. I’ve been contemplating on joining Twitter for quite some time. I may actually go and give it a shot now. I’ve noticed that I’m still not a part of some very well known programs, such as this and technorati.

Twitter is a great networking tool, that is true. However, your “tweets” won’t be seen by those you are following unless they are following you, right?

So, if you decide to follow these gurus, yes you can learn from them but you can’t have an engaging conversation with them unless they follow you.
